Don't negotiate with Terrorists

Wie absurd es ist mit Terroristen zu verhandeln, zeigt die jüngste Geiselnahme in Mali. Dort hat Al Qaeda vier europäische Urlauber entführt - vermutlich weil es sich bisher immer gelohnt hat, den europäischen Staaten Geld abzupressen. Dass amerikanische Touristen in Westafrika einigermassen Sicher sind hat in erster Linie etwas damit zu tun, wie die US-Regierung mit solchen Angriffen auf ihre Staatsbürger umgeht. Im Gegensatz zu den Europäern ist man in Washington nicht bereit Geld in die internationale Dschihadindustrie zu pumpen:

"Salafists are offering enormous sums of money to any terrorist group who brings them white Westerners, but with the twin conditions that they are not American nationals and they are not captured on Malian territory."

Al Qaeda was wary of provoking an armed response from the United States and did not want to anger Malian authorities, the military source said.
